'Union' snap support in 'Ultra' pipelines

Are ‘Union’ snaps supported in ‘Ultra’ pipelines? As per the documentation for Union snaps, they are not. However in the blog post Pipeline Tools, Data Pipeline Design - SnapLogic they are part of the pipeline.
