Much more of a simple question compared to others... Does anyone use the filter snap with "= true" as a connector to maintain the aesthetic flow of a pipeline construct? (basically so things are more nicely connected and easier to visualise) I can't imagine one or two of these in a pipeline would be much more effort to run than if it was just connected via floating numbers! Interested to hear the community thoughts on this!
Well that actually looks good visually 😄
Roger S. Yes, but not in such a use case like that as the pipeline is already connected via copy > mapper > union, more in a scenario like the screenshot i provided here, where there would be an air gap/numbered connection either side of the filter, adding the filter allows the pipeline to visually "look complete" rather than having 3 floating sections which can't be physically joined. numbered connection screenshot also present
Also I don't know if this is a bug, I've not reported it, but if you look "Filter2", that was a direct connection before saving, then after saving the pipeline it turned to a numbered connection, that looks like a direct connection. If i drag the mappers/join, those 3 snaps disconnect with the numbered connection! (An issue for another time, but thought I'd point that out!)
Hi Lee, About adding a snap " as a connector to maintain the aesthetic flow of a pipeline construct" :
Each snap in a pipeline has a memory footprint and a good practice is to use the least amount of snaps.
Less snap, less resources used by the pipeline.
About the direct connection and the output view records number showing, it happens when you have snaps heads/tails rotated. As long as both snaps are connected there is no impact.
